According to WISTV, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer will most likely run for South Carolina Governor in 2010. This is really not new news, but a finality to the question; is he or isn’t he. If Bauer goes through with the decision to run he will most likely be facing off against Attorney General Henry McMaster and Congressman Gresham Barrett.
It is left to be seen to who would run the Guv lights campaign. Bauer’s consultant Rod Shealy will be running the independent campaign of Dr. Oscar Lovelace. This makes us think that Bauer may not actually run. Shealy is the mastermind that got Bauer through a very tough primary challenge and a difficult general election.
Bauer is trailing in fundraising, but could make some of that with his strong work ethic that got him elected in the first place. Bauer moved his residence to Charleston after he became Lt. Governor, which makes us think he has his eyes on the first congressional district. Congressman Brown who currently holds the seat could be looking to retire any time. Brown is also a client of Shealy. We do not know this for sure, but think it is a good possibility.

The 2008 elections are not even over yet and we are already talking about 2010. This is a political state isn’t it?

He would make an excellent governor, and even though he is a Columbia insider he is still in many ways an outsider. He is not part of the good ole boy system that wants to run Columbia again.

He would be making a mistake to enter the race for governor. The field is already to rich for Bauer. He would not be able to raise the millions it would take to get through the primary againist a well funded McMaster and Barrett.

Didn’t Bauer say he would not run for governor if he got reelected?

Its too early to say who and who dosen’t have the advantage. Bauer and the other two all give us an option for an excellent governor.

McMaster has the numbers to win this thing, Barrett is not known enough around the state and Bauer has garnered to much negative publicity, but does have a strong base with seniors now.

If Obama wins in November the state GOP could be in trouble in 2010. Irwin, Rex, and Tenanbaum could be trouble for the Republicans.
