The house democrats are going to give the GOP their wish and let the ban on offshore drilling expire next month. The GOP has made offshore drilling a central campaign theme and have put a tremendous amount of pressure on Pelosi and Reid to allow the offshore drilling. It looks like the dem’s have caved and are just going to allow the ban to expire without a vote.
Granted the dem’s are going to take credit if the lifting of the ban lowers gas prices, but will vote to reinstate it as soon as they get a chance. Not lifting the ban would cause too many freshmen democratic house members to loose reelection in conservative/moderate areas, where they were swept into power on the 2006 democratic sweep of the house.
With the economy in bad shape the lifting of the ban may be what Americans need, the hope of cheaper fuel for cars and homes. With winter just around the corner, home heating prices are going to be a major factor in the coming months and weeks.

Drill and drill it all. We need oil, our dependency is not going to go away over night like Obama and Pelosi think. Lets not starve ourselves while waiting for new technology that may or may not work.

Lets go get that oil, with all thats wrong right now, we at least deserve cheap gas.

we can drill ourselves out of this mess and it is time we start. We should not stay dependent on OPEC. Our country should always control it’s own destiny.
